Delightful aroma of your aftershave
fills my senses, overpowering
last nights burnt-kipper-stench.
After you leave,
I spend long hours
contemplating
(in the dark)
your aftershaves
sinister significance.
So when you walk back in
with your arm slung around
her waist,
my insides boil
to hear her say Oh dearest,
as your lips
tattoo their own sonnets
on her slender, smooth neck.
Oh but I know,
I know (or so I console
my rust-taste ache)
she will never see
you weep over
your crack-of-dawn coffee
like I do.
But the next morning
when you set her atop
the kitchen-counter
and she
runs
her cold (nasty) fingers
along my side and drawls,
Honey, you need to get
a new toaster,
I jam her burnt, torn toast
in my spring-loaded chest,
jolting her when
she pokes my heart
with her cat-cruel iron fork.
And I burn both faithless sides
of the slices of your bread.

I'll never look at toasters the same way again... ever! (which reminds me, ours was acting up as well, and now it's sitting at an electricians workshop.)
Anyway, well written as usual :3
she will never see
you weep over
your crack-of-dawn coffee
like I do.
That's some damn good writing.
Serves her right for poking a(n electrical appliance like a) toaster with a fork. Silly.
Just to let you know I received this submission to my Writers Workshop task... thanks for putting it forward! Officially I'm not supposed to reply til 28th December but I'm kind of eager to get stuck in so (Christmas permitting!) I might respond before then. This comment is just to ask -- would you rather have your crit response here or in a note? Or I can email you if you like, just note me your address. Whatever you feel happy with.
All best Christmas wishes! Claire x
